Certified Professional Builder (CPB) Designation
In 2013, the West Tennessee Home Builders Association chose to establish a local Certified Professional Builder (CPB) designation program. Contractor members may voluntarily apply for the designation, and in the application, must demonstrate their years of experience, provide proof of participation in a Home Builders Association Council or committee, participation in continuing education courses, and provide financial and customer references. The purpose of the program is to recognize those builders who have chosen to go "above and beyond" in reaching benchmarks for professional and personal advancement. Once approved as a Certified Professional Builder (CPB), the member may use the designation logo in business promotional materials or advertising, and may use the CPB credentials with his or her company name.
To date, members who have achieved CPB Designation include:
King James Construction, 901-388-4778
Kim Grant Homes, 901-316-0352, ext. 141
Blair Brown Homes, 901-854-0525
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) offers a number of professional designations, and many members of the West Tennessee Home Builders Association have taken the time to invest in achieving these designations. Some of the more common ones are Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), Certified Green Builder (CGB), Certified Green Professional (CGP), Certified Graduate Builder (CGB), Certified Master Builder (CMB) or Certified Master Remodeler (CMR). To learn more about these designations, visit the NAHB website, http://www.nahb.org/page.aspx/category/sectionID=119. When you are choosing a contractor, ask about their designations; this will help you find a contractor that has the expertise and training to work with you on your dream home or remodeling project.
Builder Standards Committee
The Builder Standards Committee is an appointed group of members who oversee the WestTNHBA New Home Limited Warranty Program and the Certified Professional Builder (CPB) Designation Program. The committee consists of 13 members, nine of which are builder or remodeler members, and four associates: one representing the banking industry, one from the mechanical trades, one material supplier and one realtor. The Committee is chaired by the association Vice President. This committee is responsible for reviewing consumer complaints under the terms of the New Home Limited Warranty, and making recommendations to the full Board of Directors if that is warranted.
The WestTNHBA New Home Limited Warranty is for use only by members of the association. To view a copy of the warranty document, click on the link in the right-hand corner, above.
